September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give blood to support kids, teens and young adults battling cancer, as well as others in need of transfusions.

The National Cancer Institute estimates that more than 15,000 children and adolescents in the U.S. were diagnosed with cancer last year. Childhood cancer patients often need blood products during chemotherapy, surgery or for treatments regarding complications that arise during therapy and surgery.

Dover Greens and Olivet University organized and hosted a Blood Drive event in cooperation with the American Red Cross on Sep 3 at one of the classrooms on the campus.

The event lasted from 2pm to 7pm and was open to public. There were dozens of students who participated in the donation all throughout the afternoon. The event enjoyed the participation also from local residents.
